Ó Bhéal
Ireland, 2023
Shot in elegant black and white, and vivid with music, performance and lyricism, Ó Bhéal is a joyous music documentary shining a light on the emerging generation of musicians expressing themselves in the Irish language. Across hip hop, electronica and singer/songwriters, these artists draw on traditions of folklore, storytelling and sean-nós singing to create vital new sounds devoid of sentimentality. In between thrilling performances and insight into creative processes in studios, the musicians speak frankly and poignantly about their art, their motives, and their place in the world. The result is an inspiring celebration of voices that demand to be heard.
