Tanya Doyle’s charming documentary focuses on a cheerleading troupe formed in County Galway who set themselves the target of getting to the World Championships of Cheer in Orlando, USA. Amidst clouds of make-up and bronzing tan, endearing, precious characters emerge, gravitating toward the team coach Hilton, a fierce mentor and eager friend to his charges, determined to inspire these kids while insisting the ‘Worlds’ will be his last competition. Issues of geography, dyslexia, money, Covid-19, lockdowns, teenage tantrums and vaccine scepticism all threaten to scupper the dream. Will this rag bag bunch of underdogs make it to Orlando? Or just be fabulous trying?
