Mrs Robinson
Aoife Kelleher’s latest documentary is a celebratory portrait of Mary Robinson, who grew up in modest, stable circumstances in Ballina, in Co Mayo, to be a reforming constitutional lawyer and senator before playing a huge role in transforming Ireland when she became the first female president of the country. She would leave that role to become UN High Commissioner, and sit as chair on the independent group of global leaders The Elders, set up by Nelson Mandela. With extraordinary access to its subject, revealing interviews and fascinating archive, Mrs Robinson pays tribute to an influential life that continues to be committed to peace, justice and human rights.
